Why does my hair have residue

Do not use the shampoo everyday. You cam also use lemon juice on the scalp, wrap your hair with a towel shampoo and rinse and condition. May 27, Glue hair! I was just wondering if anyone else hair also dries feeling and looking wiry around the sticky area?

Ive always prided myself on my soft shiny hair, but now its so bad Ive even considered just shaving it all off! I tried using Soapnut a. A wonderful remedy to help smoothen my hair. Simply wow! Feb 11, Olive oil by: Anonymous Just tried the olive oil technique and it worked an absolute treat. My hair is back to normal, maybe even better!

Feb 11, It's a fungus by: Anonymous Use Nizoral as directed. It's a fungus and it feeds off of oil, sweat, etc. Dandruff is a fungus too, but the medicine in Nizoral is what really cured me. Nizoral gave me my old hair back!

I could feel all of the grossness finally leaving, going down the drain. Dish soap "works", but only for a day or two! It doesn't address the underlying issue. Jan 30, Dishsoap works temporarily by: Anonymous I have this problem for 2 years, Dawn dish soap works yes, but the problem comes back very quickly. I don't know what to do I feel like shaving my head.

Jan 28, Dish washing Liquid works!!! No matter how good the shampoo and conditioner is I use redken and matrix after washing my hair the roots have been drying like straw with a sticky residue that makes my hair look and feel horrible. I've been putting dry shampoo in the roots so they don't look and feel so yuck. After reading this thread, I went and massaged olive oil into my roots for about 2 minutes and then washed my hair with dishwashing liquid and conditioned with my expensive conditioner and my hair is soooooo soft and fluffy.

Finally I have my hair back!! Jan 25, Dawn dish liquid!! I could not figure out what was wrong. Tonight I washed vigorously 2x, only applying conditioner to my ends, but again my towards the scalp felt sticky and way too heavy. I read several posts and figured Dawn couldn't do too much damage- they use it on wildlife after all! One wash and rinse it felt a lot better, but still far to heavy for my baby fine hair.

So I washed and rinsed again with the Dawn and my hair feels normal again!! It also relieved the soreness in my scalp! Thank you!!!!! Jan 17, Dishwashing liquid by: Anonymous Never use dishwashing liquid on your hair!!!!

It's full of detergents that aren't meant for hair. Use a clarifying shampoo and a small amount of conditioner meant for your type of hair. Then rinse rinse rinse!

Jan 13, Dishwashing liquid works like a dream- thank ya'll so much! I also noticed that when I ran my fingers through it, it jot only felt sticky but had a slightly "glittery" quality left on my fingers? Panicking, I tried to wash it multiple times a day over the next few days, thinking that I may have not washed my shampoo and conditioner out properly. To my dismay and growing frustration, nothing worked. In fact, the problem seemed to be gettibg worse the more I washed it.

Last night, I washed my hair times in desperation, because I have a photoshoot today. At 2am, I found this thread and decided to give dishwashing liquid which seemed to be the consensus, with a few exceptions a try.

So I went to bed and woke up at am to wash my hair with dishwashing liquid. Its am now. I'll update later! I think the cause might have been the Dove products, because I noticed that the "glittery" quality I found left on my hands looked similar to the "glittery" quality in the shampoo.

Andyway, tip: Use good conditioner at the very ends of your hair after using dishwashing liquid. Only at the very very ends though! I tried it and it worked okay but I have to do it several times. This time I took it a step further. Decided I would experiment a little Okay this is going to sound crazy and counter-intuitive but it works. Shampoo 2times condition. It's a miracle. I think this works better than anything I've tried!!! My hair is so fluffy I can't see my scalp!!!

My theory Oil breaks down the waxy build up and binds to it and gets washed away with the oil. Think peanut butter to get out gum Try it, you'll love me!!! Jan 07, Maybe try something different by: Anonymous Maybe try just using conditioner.

I know it sounds counter productive, however if you think about it, it makes sense. The oil residue in our hair is there for a reason. Or I should say, a reaction. When we use shampoo it strips our hair of all the natural oils in our hair which is sooo damaging. Our scalp then secretes MORE oil to compensate. Hence the oily residue. And maybe just use the shampoo once or twice a week if you absolutely cannot live without it.

However if you do it this way, I would use conditioner that doesn't have harmful ingredients in it and shampoo that doesn't have harmful ingredients in it as well and avoid putting and doing harmful styling and styling aids in your hair as this will create a build up and basically make what your trying to do pointless the less crap you put in your hair the easier it will be to essentially "retrain" your hair and scalp.

This should be done for a month or two and you will notice a big difference. I had to do this at one time and I use shampoo once or twice a week and my hair is never oily. Will never go back to washing my hair like I used to again. Lol hope this helps :. Jan 03, Fixed it by: Anonymous I have long hair, mid back. A week ago I noticed this issue. My hair felt sticky while drying and looked like straw.

I found this forum and tried the Neutrogena Anti Residue shampoo. Very minor results. So I looked back here for another solution and noticed " washing up soap" had good results. Im American, didn't know what washing up soap was so I guess and used anti bacterial hand soap. One more wash and I should be back to smooth and silky. Dec 21, The only thing that works.. Leave in for 5 to 10 minutes. Rinse thoroughly then condition.

I get the gummy hair due to some kind of folliculitis on my scalp. I tried multiple washing. I tried dawn, but it only worked for a couple of days. I tried coal tar shampoo, but I couldn't deal with the smell. Finally stumbled across the t-sal and it is the only thing that cleaned my hair and helped kill off the folliculitis.

One use and my hair is shiny, light, and soft again. Nothing seemed to help. I didn't suspect my Pantene shampoo and conditioner to be the cause since I had used them faithfully for about 15 years. Out of desperation I tried a sulphate free shampoo and conditioner and just like magic, after 2 washes my hair was back to normal.

I tried the Liveclean brand and will never switch back. Apparently the permanent waxy buildup is a form of dermatitis and apparently you can develop an allergy or sensitivity to SLS at any time or if you have it and don't know, it can worsen at any time. A mistake I made was not checking my other products for sulphates, including my face wash, soaps, body washes, hand soaps etc. I have since developed other unpleasant dermatitis symptoms on other areas of the body and believe it's due to these products containing sulphates.

Good luck and I hope you find an effective solution that works for you. Dec 08, Solution! My hair has had this gross, greasy residue thing going on due to a build up of dry shampoo. Straight after washing and drying it would look like I hadn't washed it in a week and it was soo frustrating. I read on here to try dish soap and it worked instantly. So happy to have my hair back and not have to wear a hat every day!

Nov 24, OMG i am so happy i have found the solution to my greasy oily heavy hair by: Katykaty Thanks to the comments on this site i ve found the solution i have been desperate finding. I have switched to natural shampoo for a year a now because of the amount of hair that i lost due to the commercial hair products. Although the natural shampoo did help save me the hair loss issue, it left my hair greasy, heavy, flat and no body at all.

I then decided to switch to commercial shampoos once again because i could not stand wearing my hair like this to work. For about two months of reusing the commercial shampoos my hair sheds like crazy, i lost my hair in batch, and everytime i look at the hair that fell out on my floors, it hurts. I could not afford to lose so much hair any more. I then had to change back to the natural regimen. I used one of the organic tea tree shampoo but still i got the same oily heavy greasy hair.

This time i was okay to accept it the way it is heading to work every day. I tried many ways, vinegar, dry shampoo, but none of that worked. I saw many people gave compliments to the dishwaher shampoo, and i was tempted to try that out. However, I not only have the greasy hair problem but hair loss issue.

That's the reason why i switched to natural shampoo. So, even though the Dawn method is promising i did not go for it since that would conflict with my initial interest in replacing commercial shampoo with something natural. So, I came across one of the comment in here about the egg poo, and i went for it. This is the first time i have tried the egg poo. Honestly the smell is not at all pleasant, but as soon as i walk out of the bathroom my hair already feels different. I let my hair air dry just like usual, and it dries much faster than before.

The result was a non greasy hair, with body, has shine and so soft. Okay this is what i did: I washed my hair with my organic shampoo bar like usual. While my hair still damped, i put on the egg mask 2 eggs, 2 pieces of lime, 2 tbsp of vinegar , and had it on for about mins, rinsed my hair with cold water and finally an ACV rinse to reduce the egg smells.

That 's it. I encourage you to try this out. I am very happy for the first time that i now found a solution to my hair problem, natural, condition my hair without regular conditioner, and good bye to greasy feeling. Thank you ladies that introduced me the egg poo method. It works like a charm and i think this is what i m going to stick with for a very long period of time!

Nov 19, 1 wash and the sticky oily scalp cleared by: Nikki D I went through the same problem a few yrs back. I had psoriasis too. And used this new hair oil which when washing did some harm to my scalp. No matter how much I washed, the glue kinda greasiness did not wash off through normal shampoos.

And boom!! The sticky scalp was back to normal. Try a shampoo with coal tar.. S: I'm on this forum cause it's back again. Nov 18, My hair is sticky after using pantene n moving by: Anonymous Hi, Recently i moved right down the road from my old house and ive had hair issues.

It all started when i used pantene i believed. Because nobody else in my hair has issues with their hair but me. Weve had our water checked also. Ive gotten hair treatmebts done, which they work great for about a week then my hair goes back to this sticky, dry knotty mess. I dont understand what is going on.

Ive bought expensive shampoo n conditioner n clarifying treatments in salon and at home and nothing is changing. Any ideas? Please help. Nov 18, Washing up liquid works amazingly!!! So I tried washing up liquid in my hair when I had a shower, I used about pumps. The next morning I woke up and my hair was lovely and soft! I definitely recommend washing up liquid! Nov 17, I experienced oily hair caused by Pillow by: sis My pillow was made of real feather swan I think - It turned out after several years of use and misuse : , it releases oil in tiny quantities.

I did not notice that at start but later suspected that my oily hair was caused by that. I changed pillow and oily hair disappeared! My problem started very slowly and has been getting worse. Thinking back the problem seems to have started after I changed my pillow, invested in one of the very expensive tempur pillows which was wonderful but!! I am wondering whether this is the culprit as these pillows are made from bi products - oil Has anyone else changed their pillow to one of these and noticed this I am hoping that this is the case as this would solve the mystery.

Last night I went and bought fairy liquid, I decided to buy one that did not have as many harsh chemicals and I used about 4 pumps on my hair last night - just my crown and avoided the ends. My hair instantly felt better even while I was working the fairy liquid in! I would recommend this to anyone if you have that sticky greasy residue that you can't get rid off. Thanks for giving me answers.

Oct 06, Finally got rid of it! Tried over 20 shampoos paul m, tea tree, clarifying, nourishing, neutrogena, nioxin, klorane, conditioner, dandruff etc as well as remedies like ACV oozed even more wax! Since my hair didn't dry well, the moist scalp environment triggered my dermatitis flare-up. Dry shampoo was my best friend since it at least made my hair look normal and not like I'm walking around with a wet head of hair.

Been through 3 doctors who can tell me nothing except prescribing steroids for my dermatitis and scalp detox treatments sessions each by 2 salons but waxy hair always back on 2nd day post-session. Only thing I didn't try was baking soda and Dawn though I did try facial wash for fear of making my dermatitis worse. Finally used a shampoo with silicon Bioken Enfanti which I've avoided for the longest time, thinking since it will coat hair, it might at least make my scalp less moist and susceptible to dermatitis.

And so it did and after a while, I find that certain patches of hair near the scalp were dry after blow-drying though the rest was still covered in sticky, which made me think it might just need a last push. Hope it keeps up! I tried apple cider veniger, but it didnt work. Vatika shampoo worked for me.. Oct 03, Reason why by: Anonymous Okay so I have had this issue and there's an article about it.

So it could be one of two reasons why your hair might be sticky. If you just keep washing your hair and rinsing it out thoroughly then it should go away after awhile.

I also noticed I shed less hair when brushing it. Sep 24, I used dish washing liquid!! But next day I applied shampoo and when my hair dried I noticed that they are still so oily. At first I though I haven't wash out the shampoo well.

No next day I again applied shampoo in my hair and washed it pretty well. But it was so surprising that my hair still looked so oily and it felt very sticky when I touched my hair. I couldn't find any reason behind this problem. Seeing the discussion I decided to use dish washing liquid and I did so. The sticky see has decreased a lot but haven't fully gone.

Whatever the condition is better now. Thanks to the people who gave the suggestions. May be applying the same process tomorrow will help me get rid of this problem completely In Sha Allah. Sep 24, Dawn Detergant by: Anonymous After reading all the posts I realized I was not the only one suffering from a coating on my hair after dying it.

So I trotted out to the kitchen and grabbed my bottle of Dawn dish soap. I figured my hair could not get worse than it already was! Well to my pleasant surprise I could tell that after I washed my hair felt quite stripped so I slathered on some conditioner and let it sit for about five minutes. I rinsed and blow dried and everything was A Okay!!

I can tell as soon as I blow dry it. I first noticed this after I'd dyed it at home. Sep 12, tried and tested by: Anonymous I get this condition once every months particularly when i am stressed out. Stressing out and washing your hair over and over again makes it worse so tip 1: don't panic your hair will be fine. Tip 2: don't wash them repeatedly!

I found a cure that works like magic.. It might seem gross but it helps so why not: 1 egg, 1 tablespoon yogurt and half a tablespoon mustard seed oil i think any oil will work but i use this Mix all well. Put it in your hair Shower the usual way shampooing twice to get rid of that egg and voila you have hair as soft as never before.. I have tried it many times and it works every-time: :. Sep 04, Washing up liquid by: Anonymous I had the exact same problem, I could only tell that it was still sticky when I started drying it with a blow dryer.

I have very long thick hair which I take care of a lot and get regular hair cuts to keep it healthy and thick at the ends but when my hair started getting sticky especially at the roots I was considering getting all cut off.

I decided to look it up to see if anyone else he the same problem and came across this website where I read in the comments to use washing up liquid I was a little skeptical to do it as I was worried it would dry out my hair but I decided to try it anyway. As I was washing my hair with it my hair started feeling dry but after putting conditioner on it it felt fine again.

When I started to dry it I could tell the sticky substance had gone. I am so thankful I looked on this site because no matter what shampoo I used it didn't work I totally recommend trying the washing up liquid, it worked for me now my hair is soft and back to normal.

Aug 29, Hard water by: Anonymous Try washing your hair somewhere else with a different water source or use bottled water. Hard water will build up on your hair and make it act just as you've described. It happened ultimate me, and I thought the salon screwed up my color somehow and damaged my hair. I showered at the gym one day. Difference was day and night. Aug 23, Dishsoap for the win!

It lost all its texture and I had to start wearing it up every day because it looked so greasy and nasty. I just read a comment about the dishsoap and felt desperate so I gave it a try. It freaking worked!! I put a hair mask on it afterwards and it honestly feels like it used to again. Thank you! Aug 23, dishwashing liquid worked!!!! Aug 21, Nizoral - A Lifesaver for Greasy Hair by: Anonymous My hair went through almost year with this weird sticky greasy feel to it, it was gross, even after I showered and washed it, it still looked limp and greasy, and it was also losing a lot of strands.

What I didn't know was it was the result of a surgery I had three months before and also changing hormones due to perimenopause. Apparently, the anesthetic used in surgery whether awake or asleep has a weird effect on your hair, causing your hair to fall out, get extra greasy and limp.

I tried everything, dish soap, apple vinegar cider, tea-tree shampoo, anything and everything. Your hair will dry up and be fuller and better. Only use Nizoral twice a week as it's very strong. Once whatever it is that's making your hair freak out and go weird is gone, you can stop using the Nizoral, and just use it occasionally on those extra greasy weeks during your period. Aug 18, Hairspray by: Anonymous I got a build up of hairspray for using it daily and regular shampoo did mot remove the sticky waxy feel.

I googled and researched what's in hairspray. Found out that most hairsprays contain acetates and copolymers , they are glue ingredients. Aug 06, Dishwashing liquid and baking soda by: Anonymous Thanks so much u guys, for your advice!

My scalp has been itchy and my hair has been greasy and clumpy as if I hadn't rinsed it properly, for about 2 weeks! I was so scared to put dishwashing liquid in my hair as I have a wedding to go to today so if it flopped, it would be a bad day for it to flop in, but I was desperate!

So I mixed it with some baking soda and wow! Squeaky clean and soft! Also, your comments have made me realize it's my hair dye conditioner I've been using at gym because of the small bottle size. Also, thanks for bringing my attention to the panthenol-i have noticed that the shampoo that makes my hair feel sticky contains pantheon lol. I'm so grateful to u marvellous ladies! Jul 27, Baking Soda Works by: Anonymous I had that sticky dreadful waxy coating on my hair where it looked as if the shampoo wasn't washed out of it and forget blow drying it.

It was like trying to blow wave greasy hair. This was mostly on the top of my head. I washed my hair with the normal shampoo and conditioner that I use - towel dried it, made a paste up of bio-carb soda and water and massaged it through my hair like I would have done with a treatment - leave for 10 minutes, wash out and wha-la!! No residue. Hair was soft and back to normal. I have had this issue for about a month now, I have very fine, thin hair and it was very obvious and I felt very self conscious about it.

I tried the apple cider vinegar method which did nothing for me. For a quick fix I then tried the baking soda method in which I mixed approx 2tbsp of baking soda with about ml of water and poured it over my head when wet and thoroughly rinsed followed by a soft shampoo. My hair does feel dry which I did expect but can say that I'm really not bothered because the greasy residue is completely gone! I intend to use coconut oil in a few days on the ends of my hair to try and add some moisture back in.

Jul 09, I agree that the residue is impossible to get rid of by: Anonymous my hair looks like I have not wash it in weeks. It is sticky and hard to get rid of this. When the hair looks less sticky then the color is almost gone. Jul 07, Dish Soap by: Anonymous dish soap really works, it doesn't even matter if its the cheap kind.

Thank you so much! Jun 15, Remedy!!! This helped my hair like nothing else. I left this in my hair one day for 30 minutes and it got rid of the filmy sticky residue on my hair almost entirely. I started using it every time I wash, which is once every 3 days and used tea tree oil shampoo and a good rich violate conditioner and after about 3 or 4 applications of this, it got rid of all of it!!!

I think a good conditioner is also key to what helped. You would think the opposite because you think you need to clean your hair rather than add more moisture to it, but that is the opposite. I think this helps Bring a chemical balance back where needed. I get Brazilian blow outs every 3 months and that has also helped. But the main ingredient I give the most credit to is the apple cider vinegar. It also serves as a good detangler!!!

I was so run down. I gave up all fruit, sugar, chocolate etc, it has taken me about 6 months so far. I am now feeling much better ,my hair is now showing signs of growing back. I can now eat a little chocolate, but I don't have sugar at all. Jun 05, Bumble and Bumble by: Lauren I had this exact same problem. I normally shower in the evening and towel dry my hair before I go to bed.

Anyway one morning I woke up and looked in the mirror to find this weird sticky residue in the front section of my hair on the topside of my head. My first thought was that I'd not completely washed out all of the shampoo, so I popped back into the shower to re-wash my hair.

But then when I dried my hair the sticky residu was still there, I was so confused because I hadn't done anything differently compared to my normal shower routine. Luckily I had some dry shampoo that seemed to solve the problem temporarily but I knew as soon as I got back into the shower the stickiness would return!

We were having issues with the shower at the time, the temperature was constantly up and down so I think this had something to do with it as your hair produces more oils in hotter temperatures. After searching online for a while I found an article about clarifying shampoos that strip all the gunk out of your hair without being too damaging in the process. I used it straight away with my shower turned down to a lower temperature.

I was so relieved. And a bonus was that my hair felt even better than before. I tried everything! Stopped conditioning, stopped using hair oils and heat protection creams, double sometimes even triple shampooing. I even bought a clarifying shampoo that didn't work either. I was so frustrated, it was really getting me down! Then a girl o work with told me to try washing my hair with washing up liquid. I was a little cautious of this idea because my hair gets very dry very easily.

But, I washed my hair with washing up liquid and I worked so so well! So give it a shot, you won't regret it! May 13, Sticky residue by: Laura My 11 year old grandson had this! I thought at first he didn't rinse conditioner out and sent him back into the shower.

It still was there. He washed it over the next couple of days, and I extra washed it when I saw it still there, but it wouldn't wash out. We tried the dawn dish soap tonight and blow dried it, and it does seem to be gone. After reading the thread and some mentioning it may be a fungal thing, my thought is that fungas needs a moist, warm spot to grow.

We have been washing his hair at night in the shower, and then when he goes to bed, his hair is still damp his hair is at a longer length. From now on I will be sure his hair is completely dry before he goes to bed, and that may help, if it is indeed a fungas. I spent several years as an assistant at an upscale salon, and I remember my training, and many a customer, coming in with this exact problem.

Nothing, no conditioner, hot oil treatment, etc could fix it This sounds entirely like a case of over processed bleaching. When bleach is left on the hair too long it literally destroys the hairs cuticle and shaft, and what you're left with is a gummy, not quite intact, string of matter.

I suggest you run, not walk, to a VERY good color technician. While I'm a firm believer in DIY for beauty and health, bleach jobs that require a high level of processing , such as going from brown to ash blonde, or getting a permanent bright red on naturally black hair, or lifting black out of the hair, is best left to a trained and experienced professional.

This will usually mean that your transformation from being a raven haired beauty to an ash blonde babe will take several applications over a couple months, which would be the case if you went to a pro to do it too Sigh Your comment was a few weeks ago, hopefully you've seen a pro and you got the best case scenario for this disaster! May 05, How to flush hot water heater by: Anonymous Hi could you explain how to flush a hot water heater?

I do not have a water tank i have a combi boiler Thanks in advance. May 01, The real culprit by: Anonymous The real culprit is your hot water heater. Sediment, such as calcium, builds up. Your hot water heater needs to be flushed. You'll be surprised at the nasty looking stuff that comes out. Fixed my sticky, dirty hair problem immediately.

Apr 25, Apple cider vinegar by: Anonymous It works!!!!!! Apr 17, Sticky hair that breaks by: Mandy, England Hi just wondering if anyone can help? I recently used color b4 to remove red out my hair as I'm going back blonde, but ever since using it when my hairs wet its sticky. I can't even get a brush threw it.

I have tried everything even washing my hair in washing up liquid, nothing works, any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Mar 10, Sticky hair and hair loss by: Anonymous I have been experiencing oily hair after I shampoo for months and now I am experiencing hair loss. My dermatologist I was sent to gave me a prescription like nizoral and it makes it better the day I use it but next day my hair is flat and oily.

I have tried this remedy for a few months. My dishes now are seeming greasy after I wash. I live in an old apartment building. I'm wondering if it's the old pipes? I'm going to try to get a water test kit from somewhere. My hair is thinning badly and I have a bald spot on the crown of my head about the size of a quarter but overall thinning too. My doctor says it might be male pattern baldness. I am devastated. Mar 06, Same issue by: Melissa I've had this same issue now for about a month.

I first thought it was our water softener filter so we changed it. Still there. We even got a new hot water tank, we knew it was going bad and was thinking that maybe the nasty stuff built up inside was making this happen.. Only thing I could do is add dry shampoo to get through a day of my hair down, or I would just be wearing it up. Zeichner tells Bustle that shampoos and conditioners are meant to be applied and removed from the hair and scalp. Allowing them to sit leads to a buildup, which will alter the feel and texture of the hair.

If this has happened to you, a clarifying shampoo is the way to go. This anti-residue shampoo from Neutrogena is designed to reduce the build up of oils and residue caused by a lot of popular hair products.

How it works: Continue using your regular hair products as you have been, but use this clarifying shampoo once a week. You'll see less build up, and a less greasy overall look to your hair.

One fan writes, "I love this clarifying shampoo. My hair does not feel brittle after shampooing which I was afraid of - really leaves it pretty soft.. If you love a super hot shower, it could be contributing to potential greasiness. While you may be focused on your hair, your scalp is still skin. When the skin becomes dehydrated, oil production can increase to compensate leading to that greasy feeling. While yes, a scalding hot shower may feel nice, rinse your hair with lukewarm or cool water instead.

If the first thing you do after you wash your hair is put on your frizz fighter, shine serum, or heat protectant, just make sure you're only applying a small, pea-sized amount. Just like your conditioner, your products should really only be going on the bottom half of your hair, according to Portanova and Bertucci. Made with coconut oil and egg, this anti-breakage serum helps promote stronger and healthier hair.

It's lightweight, yet provides maximum hydration to your hair without leaving behind any grease. It's also blended with silk and keratin to help your hair shine. Apply a small pump to your hair while wet, and it'll dry soft, shiny, and grease-free. You might think you need to wash more because your hair is oily, but the more you wash, the more oily it's going to get. Ultimately this may translate to inflammation. As for how often you should be washing, Portanova and Bertucci recommend avoiding a daily shampoo as it can strip natural oil from your hair and cause overproduction.

Not sure if you're over-washing your hair? Here's a hair stylist's take on how often you should wash your hair if it tends to feel oily or greasy. Styling gel, mousse, hair spray and even some shampoos and conditioners can leave residue on your hair that builds up over time. This residue can weigh your hair down and dry it out, making your strands more susceptible to breakage and leading to an overall appearance of thinning. Besides diminishing your natural shine, buildup can also damage your hair by clogging follicles—which may impede hair growth.

Try these helpful hints to combat buildup and keep your hair looking healthy :. Regular shampoos are formulated to remove dirt and excess oil from your hair, but clarifying or anti-residue shampoos are specifically formulated to remove buildup. Use these products once a month or, if you really love your styling products, once a week to eliminate residue. Ask a French woman her beauty secret and she will probably say micellar water.

Now, micellar water can also be found in hair products. This multi-use product cleanses and hydrates, while removing dirt and oil through the use of micellar technology.
